A professional skateboarder, and star of an MTV reality show has been embezzled for $365,000 by his CFO, according to reports.The CFO for professional teen skateboarder Ryan Sheckler is accused of fraudulently transferring funds from two corporate accounts for his own private use. According to the OC Metro, Matthew Mercuro is charged with two felony counts of grand theft with excessive taking, and could face over 6 years in prison if convicted.
It is not uncommon to see embezzlement charges against a famous person, especially a young famous person. Maybe he thought it could get away with it, and no one else was paying close attention, especially with a rapidly rising star bringing in astronomical amounts of money in endorsements and fees.
There are always a variety of reasons why someone might embezzle funds from an employer or client. Most of the time, there is a financial problem, and the accused never thinks it is going to go very far. But sometimes, the accused embezzler just thinks they are entitled to it, and perhaps were a more significant factor in the person’s or companies success then they have been given credit.
